Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Responsible for laboratory and clinical instruction and coordination of nursing students, ensuring an educational continuum between both learning environments. This nurse educator will participate in clinical and laboratory experiences with nursing students at all levels of the programs

Essential Job Duties

1. Assists and reports directly to the Director of Nursing Programs.
2. Maintains adequate supply of laboratory supplies, and orders necessary supplies through of the Program Director as needed.
3. Assists with the preparation of program, clinical, and laboratory documents.
4. Assists in planning and implementing the coordination of laboratory activities and clinical experiences.
5. Serves as an academic advisor when necessary.
6. Participates in the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing courses and programs.
7. Maintains effective communication with students, other faculty, staff, and Department Chair.
8. Attends faculty, college, program, and divisional meetings, and serves on designated committees as needed.
9. Documents student academic outcomes related to clinical and laboratory experiences.
10. Provides laboratory instruction to practical nursing and associate degree nursing.
11. Provides clinical instruction at various affiliate healthcare organizations to practical nursing and associate degree nursing. The percentage or ratio of laboratory and clinical instruction will vary from semester to semester based upon programmatic needs.
12. Maintains nursing laboratory in a functional, clean, safe state.
13. Performs other related duties incidental to the position as deemed necessary by the Director of Nursing Programs, Dean of Health and Public Services, or Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum Education

A bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.
Successful experience in teaching nursing students-preferably at the community college level.
Experience in curriculum development; strong clinical skills, and technology oriented.
Knowledge of educational technology and on-line teaching delivery.

Physical Requirements

Adequate physical abilities to function in a classroom, laboratory, office, and health care environment including, but not limited to, dexterity, strength, mobility, sight, and hearing.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Minimum of two calendar years’ prior full-time employment or the equivalency in clinical nursing practice as a Registered Nurse. Ability to teach in traditional and non-traditional settings. Motivated; adaptable to change and to technology; versatile; flexible; team player. Excellent computer skills, including database, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
