Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Teach MAT 143 – Quantitative Literacy: This course is designed to engage students in complex and realistic situations involving the mathematical phenomena of quantity, change and relationship, and uncertainty through project- and activity-based assessment. Emphasis is placed on authentic contexts which will introduce the concepts of numeracy, proportional reasoning, dimensional analysis, rates of growth, personal finance, consumer statistics, practical probabilities, and mathematics for citizenship. Upon completion, students should be able to utilize quantitative information as consumers and to make personal, professional, and civic decisions by decoding, interpreting, using, and communicating quantitative information found in modern media and encountered in everyday life.

Essential Job Duties

1. Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
2. Teach courses on and off campus, as well as distance learning courses (on-line, hybrid) as needed.
3. Test and evaluate student performance and maintain accurate records for student progress and attendance.
4. Prepare, review, and update course syllabi and provide a copy to students and the Department Chair.
5. Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum.
6. Post and maintain office hours as requested by the Department Chair.
7. Provide and evaluate instruction and instructional material as required.
8. Submit all college reports in an accurate, timely fashion.
9. Attend required departmental and division meetings.
10. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and other.

Perform other related duties as incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum Education

Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or Statistics with 18 graduate hours in mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications

Moodle teaching experience.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to perform job duties.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Teaching experience required.
