Position Summary Information

Job Summary

EMT Instructors function primarily in the EMS classroom. Instructors are considered to be subject matter experts for the class they are teaching. Instructors must come to each class prepared and ready to lead the didactic and/or skills components for their assigned course(s). Additionally, instructors are expected to uphold the standards set forth by Rockingham Community College, the EMS Program, any association affiliation, and the NC Office of EMS.

Essential Job Duties

• Maintain the integrity of the classroom and ensure appropriate student and instructor interactions
• Prepare lesson plans for each class period being taught
• Review course materials prior to entering the classroom
• Maintain any and all teaching related credentials
• Maintain accurate records for each student assigned to their class
• Review all records prior to the end of each class to ensure accuracy
• Review all paperwork prior to submission to EMS Program personnel for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure the safety and security of any and all paperwork associated with each class
• Ensure the safety and security of students and instructors during class and skills labs
• Ensure the cleanliness of the classroom prior to leaving at the end of each class period
• Ensure the cleanliness and functionality of all equipment used during the instruction of each class period
• Report any unusual occurrences that may happen during the course of each class period (student injury or illness, discord among the participants, discord with other classes or instructors, etc.)
• Report any equipment related issues to the EMS Program Director

Perform other related duties as incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum Education

High School Diploma or Equivalency
Lead Instructor : High School Diploma or Equivalency

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree in EMS or higher. NCOEMS Level I Instructor Credential, AHA Instructor in the following: BLS. PHTLS or ITLS Instructor credential. Teaching experience.
Lead Instructor: Associate’s Degree in EMS or higher. AHA Instructor in the following: BLS. PHTLS or ITLS Instructor credential.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to perform job duties.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Sufficient knowledge of EMS systems and teaching that would fulfill the job duties as listed above.

At least 6 months experience providing emergency medical care at the EMT Level.
Lead Instructor: At least 3 years’ experience providing emergency medical care at the EMT Level. At least 1 years’ experience teaching at the EMT Level or higher

The College reserves the right to alter duties, responsibilities, conditions, working hours, and job title as necessary. Instructional positions must meet minimum SACSCOC criteria and the minimum criteria of other pertinent accrediting, licensing, and credentialing agencies in the area of teaching assignment.
